We took a walk from our hotel and found these roller bladers jumping off a ramp into Lake Geneva!

Sermione

Feel like we're properly on holiday now after the trials and
tribulations of getting here. The hotel staff greeted us by delivering
a bottle of cava in an ice bucket to our hotel room shortly after we
arrived. Then we enjoyed a three course meal and a stroll before
getting an early night.

Today we took a ferry across to Sermione and had a very pleasant
meander about. This really is a beautiful part of the world!

Honeymoon day 2

So we've made it onto a TGV bound for Milan. We're with two other
British couples who also missed the sleeper last night due to our
delayed eurostar.

It's not what we planned, but the company is good, the guard has a
good sense of humour ("Do you speak English?" "Only when the weather
is fine") and the scenery is stunning. It's like watching Tour de
France coverage on fast forward with the cycling edited out.

Next stop, Milan!

Not a great start to our honeymoon

We're in a cheap travelodge-alike adjacent to Paris-Norde station
tonight. We should be in a two birth sleeper whizzing our way to
Milan.

Unfortunately there was a problem with the "axle box" on our eurostar
after we left Paris. Unable to satisfy themselves that the train was
going to continue to function, they ultimately switched us onto a
London bound train at Ashford. This train then took us on to Paris,
and our original train went back to London.

I can only assume that they decided the train was safe, but didn't
trust it through the tunnel. Interestingly I've exchange a tweet with
someone who swapped in the opposite direction at Ashford, and the
train made it back to London without incident!

To make up for this poor start to our honeymoon we had a wander around
the seedy district surrounding Paris-Norde station. We also had a
meal, featuring the toughest steaks we've ever eaten. They were tasty,
and cooked exactly as we ordered them, but tough as old boot leather!
